Will regulating international travel stop the spread of coronavirus?

By Lee Watson

With the outbreak of coronavirus, many global leaders and health officials are offering recommendations to stop the spread of the virus. Most suggestions include imposing travel restrictions and quarantine measures to contain the spread of the illness that has claimed the lives of over 350 worldwide. The death toll surpasses that of the SARS pandemic of 2003, in which 349 people died over nine months.

China has taken measures to contain the spread of coronavirus, which is believed to have originated in Wuhan, China. Restricting travel of three cities — Wuhan, Huanggang, and Ezhou will affect the movement of approximately 20 million people.

It is a drastic course of action, but what are the alternatives?
