Apps Aid In Maintaining Healthy Eating Habits

In theory, eating healthy is a simple thing to do. In reality, making healthier food choices is not a simple thing to do. Smartphone apps are an excellent way to is making it a little easier to make more intelligent and nutritious food selections. These apps can help you create menus, shopping lists, suggest healthy recipes and can sync up to other fitness devices and apps. 

Local food centers have taken notice of the technology-driven healthy eating initiatives. Take Kroger supermarkets for example. Recently, Kroger, the largest grocery retailer in Michigan with 112 stores and 29.6% share, launched an app called OptUP aimed at simplifying healthy food shopping. It is part of Kroger’s “Wellness Your Way” program. OptUP features recommendations for healthy alternatives to the items the customer might ordinarily purchase, nutritional information, and an online shopping cart for curbside pickup or delivery. Michigan’s second largest grocery retailer, Meijer is creating its own app with a health and nutrition component.
