Community Health Worker Certificate Training Program
Course Overview
Authority Health is partnering with Michigan Community Health Worker Alliance to provide MiCHWA’s Community Health Worker (CHW) Certificate Training Program. Upon completion, the student will receive a certificate from MiCHWA and will become MiCHWA-Certified. Competencies covered include:
- Role of CHWs
- Legal and Ethical Responsibilities
- Cultural Responsiveness and Communication Styles
- Teaching and Facilitation
- Documentation and Reporting
- Organizing and Community Resources
- Promoting Healthy Living
- Behavioral Health
To obtain the certificate, all class content must be completed with an 80% passing grade for each competency. Time outside of class for homework assignments in approximately two hours per week. Total course hours are 126 (plus forty hours field experience if not currently employed as a CHW).
Who should attend?
New and current CHWs who have not received a certificate.

Student Orientation: Wednesday, June 17, 2026; 9 AM – 11 AM
Employer Orientation: Wednesday, June 17, 2026; 11 AM – 12 PM
Classes: Wednesday, July 8, 2026 through Oct 21, 2026; 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM
Graduation: Thursday, July 16, 2026; 10:30 AM – 12:00 PM

Training pre-requisites
- High school diploma or GED
- Good oral and written communication skills
- Basic computer skills
- Laptop computer
If not currently working as a CHW or in a CHW-related role:
- Interview with the instructor by the end of the first week of class
- Independent field experience in a community setting
